BRICKLAYERS’ DISPUTE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, August 30. The Wellington Bricklayers’ Union’s claims for an award were heard by the Arbitration Court to-day. The principal point was a request for a forty-hour week a wage of 3s per hour. An agreement was reached on certain minor points, but the court reserved its decision, pending the hearing of the Christchurch bricklayers’ case. MINERS’ DISPUTE. Auckland, August 30. The dispute in connection with the Taupiri and Pukemiro cqal mines was before the Conciliation Commissioner. There was no appearance of the union assessors. Several other companies were joined as parties and the dispute referred to the Arbitration Court without a recommendation. INFLUENZA PRECAUTIONS. • Wellington, August 30. The Minister of Public Health stated that, though Dr. Valintine says the figures of pneumonic influenza are quite normal, indeed rather below the average, still it is the season when people ought to take care, therefore he has given express instructions to the Healt’ Department that the epidemic advisory committees shall be organised in every large centre. This is merely as a precautionary measure. THEFT OF TOTALISATOR TICKETS. Gisborne, August 30. In the Supreme Court, George Gritton was found guilty of the theft of totalisator tickets and remanded for sentence.
