EX-CONVICT'S CLAIM.

FOR £20,000 REWARD. By Telegraph.—Press Assn Copyrlgtt. Rome, August 27. The Court is hearing a curious case, in which Popini, a master locksmith and ex-convict, is claiming £20,000 reward under Government promises. He alleges that the Government employed him to break open the safe of the Austrian Secret Service at Zurich, offering him any money found therein, also £20,000 reward. The office was constantly guarded, and Popini waited for months until the head of the service was attending a masked ball and gave hia staff a night off. Popini seized the opportunity, picked several locks, reached the strong-room and carried the safe by motor to Italy. The safe was found to contain complete plans for Austro-Ger-man espionage in Italy.
