NO RATES.

REFUSAL TO LEVY THEM. LONDON BOROUGH S PROTEST. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Received August 30, 1.5 a.m. London, August 28. At a great demonstration at Tower Hill meet of the East End suburban boroughs supported the Poplar Council’s recent refusal to levy rates, which occasioned a High Court judgment. Banners were carried bearing the inscription: “Poplar councillors are determined to go to prison fro secure equalisation of rates for the poorer boroughs.” Speakers urged East ‘Enders to begin a huge “no rent, no rates and no taxes” strike, stating it would give the biggest victory Labor ever won. It is expected the Poplar councillors will be re-arrested this week.—Reuter Service.
