The armament conference continues the subject of interesting developments. The National Catholic Welfare Council has announced than the Pope approved | of the conference, and frevealed tfie. Pope’s peace note of August, 1917, which proposed a-status quo ante helium and disarmament, but President Wilson’s reply was so discouraging that the Pope diu not publish, as he intended, the details of his programme for disarmament. Doctor Rhee, head of the so-called, republic of Korea, has announced that he will bring before the conference the question of Korean independence. It is thought that Dr. Rhee’s possible action i will prove decidedly embarrassing to the Japanese delegates. Mr. Gompers (Labor leader) has announced that if ]/ibor is represented at | the conference he will suggest that the | Labor membens’ delegations at the con- ’ ference also hold a separate convention | to discuss important international labor, questions.—Aus.-N.Z.
