LABOR IN AMERICA.

REDUCTION OF WAGES ISSUE. Bv Talecraob —Press Assn —Copyright. Received August 29, 10.45 p.m. New York, August 28. Mr. Samuel Gompers (Labor leader), speaking at Atlantic City, confessed that the active membership of the American Federation of Labor had been reduced by 750,000 since May, 1920, owing to depression, and the membership was now 3,380,000. He urged the federation to resist a reduction in wages, pointing out that “while we cannot successfully oppose every reduction it is better to resist and lose or compromise than not to resist at all.”
