THE TRAMWAYS.
AN EXTENSION ASKED FOR. A petition signed by 8G ratepayers asking for the extension of the Morley Street tramway system to Barrett Street or Wallace Place, thereby making the section a paying one, and also for the convenience of people visiting tho hospital and Western Park, was received by the New Plymouth Borough Council last night. Reasons for the petition were set out as follows: (1) To make this branch, which is not paying its way. payable; (2) the Western Park Board intends building a permanent boulder fence and erecting substantial gates, also planting the frontages. The board have waited two years now for the tram levels to- be given so that they might proceed with their work; (3) the Westown ’bus is not able to take both the Dartmoor and Westown traffic, so when this section of the tram service is completed the ’bus would be available for Westown only. The council decided that the proposal could not be considered.
