INGLEWOOD.
PLUNKET SOCIETY'S EFFORT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) August 26. i Inglewood has a reputation for giving whole-hearted support to any movement 1 that is intended to benefit the community as a whole, and that this spirit has a ■ very strong hold here was emphatically deI monstrated on Thursday by the support given to the exhibition provided as a ' daffodil day and baby show at the Town ■ Hall. The results of the competitions ’ amongst these embryo citizens, given on the dwision of Dr. Doris Gordon, of 'Stratford, were: Mr. Darlow's prize (boys ■under 3 months), Claude Kennedy; Nurse • Morgan’s prize (girls under 3 months), Winifred Bradley ; Mr. A. J The wind-up of the day was a social ' and dance in the Town Hall, which was ’ well patronised. Music for the dancing ! was provided voluntarily by Mr. Ray ' Spurdie, and the vim which the dancers . showed was good proof of their appreciation j of Mr. Spurdie’s performance. In cards j , the prizes were won as follows: —Euchre: ; Ladies, Mrs. G. Morton; gentlemen, Mr. : McGonagle. Bridge: Ladies, Mrs. Winter; 'gentlemen, Mr. Wilfred Marshall. ' The committee tender sincere thanks to the many willing helpers, through whose exertions the sum of £4B nett was realised.
A BIRTHDAY PARTY. A very enjoyable evening was spent by a large party of friends and relatives who foregathered at Mr. Joe Stachurski’s home j on Thursday night to celebrate the twentyfirst birthday of Miss Strachurski. Some ( fifty persons were present. Dancing and songs carried the time along till the glint of daylight—or was it the brilliance of the moon ?—reminded the happy revellers that another day had arrived. Vocal items in the evening’s programme were- given by Mrs. W. Taylor, Messrs. Pearce, Lumsden and Schofield, while music for the dances was supplied by Messrs. F. Grylls and V. Drawitzki. Comment on the excellent refreshments would be superfluous. The least than can be said is that if only a modicum of the good wishes showered on the heroine of the evening are realised she will be a most fortunate young woman.
