A deputation of residents of Poho- : kura, Te Wera, Strathmore, and Mai kahu waited on Mr. llairis, district railway traffic inspector, with the request that a train should leave Stratford at four o’clock in order that pupils of the High School might arrive at their homes earlier. It was stated that some of them had to ride twelve miles ‘ after leaving the train and did. not i arrive at their homes until midnight, i Mr. Harris promised to strongly re- ■ commend that the deputation’s appliea- ! tion should be granted. I The need of trains which run during i the day and allow settlers and their i families to reach their homes in dayj’light has been stressed on more than j one occasion lately and is probably one which the Railway Department will have to consider shortly. The very bad state of the roads in the back country make travelling anything but pleasant even in daylight, and the difficulties are greatly accentuated when the roads have to be traversed at night. The matter will, in all probability, be referred to at the next meeting of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce.
