Mr. Massey, in a farewell interview with the Australian Press Association, expressed the opinion that the maintenance of the Japanese treaty was the most important action in the interests of New Zealand and Australia in recent years. It was unthinkable to denounce the treaty unless it was replaced by an Anglo-Japanese-American agreement. Questioned as to what other results of the conference were likely to be to the advantage of New Zealand and Australia, Mr. Massey stated that, although the conference passed no resolution regarding shipping, an informal under-; standing was reached unanimously in favor of accelerating the mail and passenger services. Mr. Lloyd George undertook to co-operate. Apart from the conference, New Zealand benefited by the successful loan. He believed the wool position was better. Regarding meat, it was probable the present accumulations would be cleared before next season’s supplies reached the market.
