INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) August 23. The Inglewood Plunket Society, which was established some few years ago, has from the first made steady progress. Appreciation of the immense value of such an institution in the district is yearly growing, as is proved by the society’s records, which show an ever-increasing number of consultants. But it is found that the growth of the income does not keep pace with the increase of its appreciation, its- work or its expenditure, and in order to supplement its funds, and so strengthen the society to meet the inevitable increase of outlay following on extended usefulness, a Daffodil and Baby Day is to be celebrated here at the Town Hall on Thursday, 25th inst., in the afternoon, followed bj’ a social and dance in the evening. It ought not to Ibe necessary to draw special attention to the claims such a society has on the sympalh.v of all who have any wish at. all for the welfare of : their country, to induce them to soften their hearts, open their pockets, and loosen ' their purse-strings in such a manner as to j [>ive the committee a really substantial bai- | ance after all expenses are paid on Thurs- ! day’s celebrations, and io show them that ■ their efforts are recognised and give them j heart to sustain the enthusiasm that has ! prompted their willing labor in so good I a cause. Dr. Doris Gordon, of Stratford, I has undertaken to adjudicate on the merits of the babies exhibited, and no doubt her pronouncements will be looked forward to with considerable interest.
