COLLISION IN HARBOR.
FINDING OF THE COURT. By Telegraph.—Press Association Dunedin, Last Night. The Court of Inquiry into the collision between the steamer Calm and the barque Rothesay Bay, which took place in Otago harbor on July 7. gave its decision to-day. Mr. H. G. S.M., gave a written judgment, and the findings were:— (il) That the collision was caused solely by the failure of the master of the Calm, while in charge thereof and while steering a mid-channel course in narrow waters and through the recognised anchorage off Carey’s Bay, in not keeping a proper look-out, with the result that the proximity of the barque was not discovered in time to avoid the collision. (2) That the pilot was justified in anchoring the Rothesay Bay in the position he did. The Court was of opinion that the circumstances did not call ’ for dealing with the certificate of the master of the Calm, but considered that he should pay the Crown costs (£5O 19s).
