FURTHER BURGLARIES. August 20. Evidently the sentence passed on the perpetrator of a series of thefts at Stratford recently has not proved an effective lesson, and another burglar has “done the rounds,” though in a very unsuccessful manner. On Thursday evening an attempt was made on both back and front doors of C. B. Walsh’s tobacconist shop, the doors bearing plain evidence of having been attacked with, some instrument, presumably a chisel. The burglar did not gain an entrance, and transferred his attention to the premises of Messrs. Hannah and Co., and Messrs. Harston and Summerfield, but nothing was removed. The Cardiff store is also reported to have been entered. CARDS. At Te Popo last evening, the Stratford Card Club defeated Te Popo by 8 games.
