NORTHERN TERRITORY.
COMPENSATION FOR JUDGE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. Received August 18, 5.5 p.m. Melbourne, August 18. Following the late trouble in the Northern Territory, which resulted in certain Government officials leaving the territory, the Federal Government sought to terminate Judge Bevan’s appointment. Judge Bevan claimed that he remained a Judge, and instituted legal proceedings against the Federal Government. It is now announced that the action has been discontinued under an agreement by which the Government pavs Judge Bevan £2700 as compensation tad legal expenses, and Judge Bevan resigns from office.—Aus.-N.Z.
