STRATFORD RACING CLUB. The annual report for the year ended Juno 30, 1921, to be presented at the annual meeting cf members on Tuesday, August 30, says; The net profit, after Increasing tlje stakes to £4lOO and writing off £499 Is 4d for depreciation, amounts to £1374 7s lid. The race meeting account shows a profit of £3467 4s, in spite of the fact that the stakes and all wages were materially increased from last I year, especially with regard to the totalisator I staff. The totalisator profit was practically I the same as for the previous year. The gate takings amounted to £2lOO Ils 9d, an increase of £571 above last year. A sum of £4043 4s 5d was paid to the Government by way of taxation for the year. Following the members’ instructions, the committee, soon after coming into office, made a commencement with the new improve- . ment scheme, and a tender was accepted for ; the formation of 27 chains of new racing and training track on the eastern end of the club’s property, and also for the construction • of a tunnel. This work has just been com- i pleted under the supervision of Messrs. Siad-1 den, Palmer and Horner, at a cost of £4215 15s. Sundry minor works, such as seed-sow- , ing, fencing, and pipe-draining, were not in- i eluded in the contract, and will be undertaken in due season.
The most important epoch in the career of the club was the visit and Inspection by the Racing Commission, and its subsequent recommendation that the club .should be granted a permit for two additional days’ racing. This, of course, must be ratified by Parliament before it is available, but the committee has every hope and confidence that the findings of such a just, logical, and fearless commission cannot fall but find favor with a large majority of the members of Parliament,
