INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) August 16. It is satisfactory to know that the results of the ex-lligh School girls’ efforts in Inglewood to raise funds for the es« tablishment of a country girls’ hostel resulted in £24 being collected. Never theless it is safe to say that if the real earnest desirability of such an institution could be inveigled into their parcnt%’ minds the contribution would be ten times greater. On Friday evening last about 40 of the Inglewood troop of Boy Scouts, tinder Scoutmaster McDermot, the district scoutmaster, the Rev.'Stanton also being present, awaited the arrival of the “mail train from south at the railway station. The troop executive had been advised by Major Sandford that ths Chief Commissioner for New. Zealand (Captain Cosgrove) would be with him on the train, travelling through to New Plymouth, and the boys had assembled to give him a suitable greeting. This, on arrival of the train, they did with three, good cheers. Though the time at his disposal was very limited Captain Cosgrove gave a short address to the troop amt spoke personally to some of the lads. who. as the train drew oift of ’ the station, again saluted their chief with three cheers. Scouttftaster McDermott, leaving the boys in charge of assistant Scoutmasters Messenger and Yeates, joined the train for New Plymouth, on the invitation of Major Sandford. He was thus enabled to witness the enthusiastic reception of Captain Cosgrove at Taranaki .headquarters, and to hear his addresses to the Scout? and officers, and to attend the supper and gathering thereafter, at which the Chief explained certain alterations proposed in Scout organisation throughout the Dominion. Scoutmaster McDermott expresses his full appreciation of the kindness and hospitality accorded him. especially of the. opportunity given ! to gain fuller insight into the working ' of the movement which he most feeling i ly supports. 1 A football match between the St. ■ Mary’s troop of Boy Scouts, New Ply- ' mouth, and the Inglewood troop ..at, a ! date yet to be chosen, is likely to be thi. ! outcome of a challenge by the Inglewood i troop.
