THE STATUS OF INDIANS.

RIGHTS TO CITIZENSHIP. By Telegraph.—Presa Assn.—Copyright. Received August 16, 8.20 p.m. London, August 16. Mr. Montagu (Secretary of State for India), interviewed by the Daily Telegraph on the subject of the status of Indians in the Empire, said Mr. Sestri, at the outset of the Imperial Conference, emphasised the point that the subject was one of burning anxiety to India. The resolution passed by the conference recognised Indians’ rights to citizenship. He added: “We should pay a special tribute to Mr. W. M. Hughes, Mr. W. F. Massey and Mr. A. Meighen for their ready acceptance of India as a sister commonwealth to Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and for the Imperial outlook which marked their speeches and ac-tions.”—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
