FARM AND DAIRY.
STRATFORD MODEL DAIRY FARM. The monthly meeting of the Stratford Model Dairy Farm was held on Tuesday. Present; Messrs. J. \V. Dee.n (chairman). J. B. Richards, S.' Pitt and W. IL Were. With reference to the manager’s residence the building committee reported that the progress during the past month could not be considered satisfactory and recommended that the attention of Messrs. Dulull and Gibson, architects be drawn to this matter. Stumping Exira Area.—Mr. Richards reported that he had made arrangements in this connection, but the contract had not yet been signed. Sale of Alilk.-y-Mr. Richards reported that this matter had lapsed. Correspondence was read and received. Oamaru Chamber of Commerce wrote requesting information as to the steps to be taken in connection with establishing a farm similar to the Stratford Mijdel Dairy Farm. It was resolved that the secretary reply forwarding information as requested. The resignation of Mr. W. Wickham from tin executive, committee was accepted with regret and a vote of appreciation accorded in consideration of services rendered ■by him as a member of the executive committee. The stock committee reported that 1 cows have been disposed of. The commit lec recommend that the few surplus cows be held over temporarily The manager’s report for period July 12, to August S. was received and adopted and is as follows: Crops.—The balance of swedes «ire being fed off by dry cows and young stock, and a run off into rough paddock next to the Patoa River which was stumped; swedes will carry stock well into September. Mangolds.—These were lifted by July ‘2l, with the exception of about a quarter of an acre to be carted. Carrots.—These are being fed to milking cows including a few mangolds at nightime. y Hay.—Two stacks are finished and the third one started. Stock.—Number o-f cows in milk 16. quantity of milk GOOlbs every other day being taken to the factory. Four cows were sold during the month, and G heifer calves are- being reared to date. Pigs.—Twenty young pigs have come to hand and will soon be fit, to wean, which I think will have to be sold on account of there not being enough accommodation for them. The calf house has been built; eight ten feet hurdles have been made and put up for a yard for calves; the bails are being put up in front of the yard. One set of tine harrows have been purchased (second hand) at a recent sale held at Te Popo, new rugs have been purchased at £1 7s 6d z each. The following gentlemen wore elected as members of the society: —F. Whittle Esq., Stratford; M. T. Phillips Esq., Stratford: T. J. Belcher Esq., Cardiff; R. A. Belcher Esq., Stratford; J. Forbes Esq., Normanby. Accounts amounting to £7B 17s 2d were passed for payment.
