(Ilawera branch), report:— At Opunake on Monday, Sth Instant, we had: a good yarding. Competition was keen, especially for good quality dairy cattle, and the bulk of the entries were disposed of at satisfactory prices. We quote: Sows £4 to £5 15s, empty heifers to £5 13s, small ditto £4 ss, store cows 30s, weaner heifers Jersey £5 15s, Shorthorn and Holstein ditto £2 7s to £4, best springing cows £l7 10s to £22, medium ditto £l2 to £l6, old and inferior sorts to £lO, line of grade 2 and 3-year incalf heifers (fair quality) £l4, best heifers £l7 to £l9, others £8 to £lO. On Tuesday, at. Manala, we had a small entry. Prices at late rates. On, Wednesday we conducted a very successful sale on account of Mrs. J. A Bartlett. There was a large attendance of buyers, and bidding was very hrlsfc throughout. The majority of the herd consisted of Holstein, and the balance mixed breeds. The (to cows were of fair quality, good mnd.tion aud, close to profit, and made an average of 10s. We quote: Cows in mill: fl. to £34, springing cows £l2 10s to £29, sow and Utter, £ll, stores £2 15s, farm horses £2O to l'2H' 10s. A'tctlonoerlng Co, Ltd., report:— At Hamilton on Thursday, August 11, vre yarded cattle in smaller numbers than recent sales, there being little alteration in the tone of the markets. With the exception of two pens of nice quality light fat teers which made £9 10s to £lO la, th? beef pens were filled with cows which left tnuch to bo desired in tbe way of finish. The top price for cows was £7 15s, lighter cows ' t;« £5 15s, unfinished £3 tn £4 15s. The bulk of the yarding of the store stock consisted of young cattle, mostly heifers, vhich aid unde r good competition.
