MURDER OF A PRIEST.
LATER DETAILS. FINDING THE BODY By Telegraph.—Frets Assn —Copyright. New York, August 12. Later details show that Father Heslin’s grave was at the foot of & cliff over a hundred feet high, and the skull was crushed. An eighty-dollar note was found in the pocket. The police infer that Heslin was asked to walk to the cliff and was. shot from behind while peering into a cave, the murderers riddling the body with bullets to make sure that life waa extinct. The police are preparing to arrest Hightower on a charge of murder, believing that at least one other person was involved. They suspect that Hightower feared the police were on his track, which was the reason why he voluntarily offered information regarding the location of the body. Hightower’s room was searched, and revealed a piece of bloody burlap (a coarse fabric), a rifle, and newspaper clippings relating to the reward. They also found an infernal machine such os was mentioned in the first demand for a ransom sent to the archbishop. It consisted of a rifle contrivance which would fit on to a door in such a manner as to make it impossible to open the door without discharging the rifle first. The note regarding the ransom declared that Heslin was held in a room guarded by this contrivance. —Reuter.
