PREMIERS’ CONFERENCE.
GOOD RELATIONSHIP, WITH INDIA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received August 13, 5.5 p.m. London, August 12. Mr. Montagu, in an interview with the Australian Press Association, said the Imperial Conference contributed largely to good relationship with India, especially in the recognition of the status of citizenship. “We will long remember Mr. Hughes, Mr. Massey and Mr. Meighen,” he said, “for their ready acceptance of India as a sister commonwealth and for the Imperial atmosphere which marked their contributions to the discussions. They put before the Conference views of special circumstances in their respective States and their determination to harmonise these with the interests of the Empire.” He hoped the whole Empire would ultimately accept Indian citizenship. The Governments of Australia and New Zealand assured Mr. Sastri of a cordial welcome when Hb visited Fiji. Mr. Hughes invited him to discuss matters with the Australian Parliament.
