TARANAKI CUP MEETING. SATURDAY'S PROGRAMME. DREW’S HOPE WINS CUP. The New Plymouth Coursing Club’s Taranaki Cup meeting was brought to a .successful conclusion on Saturday, when, despite showery weather, there was a good attendance. The weather remained fine during the running of the heats, and as the hares were in good fettle some splendid courses were witnessed. The Australian dogs proved very speedy, but nevertheless there was only one kill. In the third heat the run between Drew’s Hope and Belle of Benalla proved a good “go’’. The former got the lead, but thereafter the work of the dogs was about equal, the former winning in pace. Happy-go-lucky also beat Pegotty in pace. The former led to the hare and turned, but thereafter Pegotty did, If anything, the better work, but Happy-go-lucky had established sufficient* lead to win. Malster beat Baby Bunting in pace in the semi-final, whilst Drew's Hope also proved too fast for both Happy-go-lucky in the semi-final and Malster in the final. The officials are to be congratulated on the successful way in which the gathering was run, Mr. F. Doughty as secretary proving the right man in the right place. Detailed results: TARANAKI CUP.—First prize, £5O and silver cup presented by Mr. J. Hannon; second, £2O; two dogs £lO each. Third Round: Malster beat Hooligan by 2% points. Baby Bunting beat Salvador by 1 point, Drew's Hope beat Belle of Benalla by 2 points. Happy-go-lucky beat Pegotty by 1 point, after a “no-course”. Semi-final: Malster beat Baby Bunting by 1 point. Drew's Hope beat Happy-go-lucky by 2% points. Final: Mr. D. D’Arcy’s (Australia) bikb Drew’s Hope beat Mr. Fraser Smith’s (Hamilton) rd Malster, by 2% points. In the evening, prior to the commeneejnent of the boxing tournament, the prizes were presented to the winning competitors by Air. P. E. Stainton (chairman of the committee), who expressed his pleasure at welcoming the sportsmen from Australia and congratulated Mr. D'Arcy on his win. Each winner received a hearty welcome from the audience, and each briefly replied, Mr. D'Arcy paying a tribute to the spurtgmanlike qualities of the New Zealanders. It was announced that Mr. D'Arcy had re-donated die cup won.
