TARANAKI CUP MEETING. OPENS THIS AFTERNOON. The Taranaki Coursing Club’s Cup meeting opens at Glenavon at 2 o’clock this afternoon, and continues to-mor-row. The Taranaki Cup, for which a substantial stake is offered, has met with a most gratifying response by owners of many of the leading dogs in Australia and the Dominion. Keen interest will be evinced in the running of Pegot|y, the favorite for the Waterloo Cup and the winner of over £4OOO in stakes. Malster will also have a large number of supporters, as in the opinion of many QportKmen it was sheer bad luck that prevented him from annexing the Waterloo at New Plymouth last year. In the absence of Mr. Everest, Malster and 1 Achieved’ First are In the capable hands of his son, Mr. Ted Everest, and judging from the excellent condition of his charges, he is a “chip off the old block.” The officials of the chib have spared no pains in the completion of arrangements, and light luncheon and afternoon tea will be provided on the grounds.
