THE RECENT STORM.
MOKAU RIVER’S SUDDEN RISE. \ SETTLERS’ UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCES. Writes our Mokau correspondent: “We are experiencing one of the most severe storms that has been known for the last thirty years. On Friday night the inhabitants of the ferry house and their neighbors had to flee up to the township almost in their night attire (no time to don bathing suits or life belts), as the flood in the river was so great that it was over the floor of ihe houses, and Mr. Williscroft had to wade out in a frothing torrent, waist high, to get his wife and little son and daughter out. The weather seems to be clearing a little to-day (Saturday), but the wind is still very high.
