A NOTABLE RETIREMENT. The Manawntu Standard reports that Mr. J. Goring Johnston, who recently returned from England, has decided to retire from racing, and his bloodstock Is to be sold almost immediately. Mr. Johnston carried on the successful Highden racing establishment, and amongst the notable winners turned out were Bronze, Nyland, Nystad, Panmure, Cease Fire, Ermengardc, Polymorphous, Boanerges, Truce, Bertrada, Ermine, Pariforih. Warplane, etc News of the breaking up of such a foremost stable will be received with regret.
