RACING COMMISSION REPORT
A QUESTION OF POWIEk By Telegraph.— Press AssaJafion. Auckland, August 4. A protest on behalf of the Otahuhu Trotting Club in respect to the Racing Commission report was put before the Auckland members of Parliament by a deputation of about 150 sportsmen. After the club’s case had been fully stated, the Hon G. J. Garland drew attention to the fact that the Commission had been set up under the Gaming Amendment Act, 1920, and that clause 3 of the Act gave the Commission power to extend the present racing days, but no authority to cut away totalisator permits at present existing. In that respect he felt the present commission had exceeded ite authority. Mr. Potter, M.P., intimated that the members of Parliament present had decided to telegraph to the Minister of Internal Affairs, drawing attention to the point mentioned by Mr. Garland, and requesting that no action be taken until Parliament had considered the report.
