RE-TRIAL FOR MURDER.
CHARGE AGAINST A MAORI
By Telegraph Presa Association.
Hamilton, Last Night. The second trial of Hakaraia Te Kahu on a charge of murdering Richard Elliot at Ongaroto on Easier Sunday was continued to-day. In the trial on June 24 the jury disagreed. Frederick Young, a new witness, a guard on the Taupo railway, said he saw Brady (the foreman) deliver a pay envelope to Elliot, and he had on several occasions seen a brown leather wallet’ In Elliot’s possession, similar to the one produced in court.
Three other new witnesses, members of Elliot’s gang, said Elliot finished work at 2.30 p.m, on Easter Saturday. He did not change money for any of them during the day. One had seen Elliot with a wallet similar to that produced, but he had never seen Te Kahu with one.
The case has not finished yet.
