’ AUSTRALIA v. SOUTH WALES. £IG AUSTRALIAN SCORE. • By Telegraph.—Press Association. London, August I. The weather was dull and the wicket soft aud easy owing to rain overnight. The attendance was 10,000. Macartney opened dashingly, but was unable to dispatch the ball for from the wicket. He was missed twice early in the innings, the fielding being alternately clea,n and patchy. The century was posted in 85 \minutes. Bowling changes were frequent, but the batsmen fully utilised cho bad length delivXies. Macartney hit seven ."ours, and at luncheon the score was three for 168. Taylor played a vigorous innings, and hit one sixer, and the crowd refused, to part with the ball. Bardsley reached his seventh century, making the twenty-sixth of the tour, but after the tea adjournment failed to cut a straight ball from Pinch. He hit one sixer and . thirteen fours, and gave a chance when he had scored 12. Taylor was caught at point. His total included ten fours as well as the sixer. Pelfew gave a chance at mid-off, which was not accepted, but was soon dismissed by a fine running catch by Tait at long-on. Armstrong and Mayno went in for some mighty drives, but both were lucky. The former hit one ball over the ropes. Seven wickets, were down for 387, and Ryder and Armstrong then added 68, principally by drives. Rain stopped play close on six o’clock.
