DISTRICT NEWS.
RAHOTU. (From Our Own Correspond'bnt.) The Bowling Club’s euchre party and dance last week was very well attended, and Mrs. A. Cameron was again successful in gaining the ladies’ prize (a ladies dress case). Mr. Coombs won the gentleman’s (a pocket wallet). A kupic was given to Miss Horner and Mr. Long (Booby prize), Mr. Nielson, of Tipoka Road, kindly gave the prizes. Extra music for the dance was played by Mesdames Quickenton and Butler, and Messrs. Orbell and Barrett. The hall committee intend holding a euchre party and dance next Wednesday instead of their usual dance. Mr. and Mrs. T. Willcox, Mesdames Colmer, J. Ward, Messrs. Kitchenman and F. Dawson returned by the Rarawa last Tuesday from Auckland district, where they have been holidaying. The friends of Mrs. A. Phillips, now of Otahuhu, will be sorry to hear slie is ill in a private hosp'itnr. Mr. Newport’s eldest boy was taken into New Plymouth hospital last week, suffering from throat trouble. Mr. Olsen is still ill at his home. Mrs, Tyrell has her youngest little daughter home from tte hospital looking well. Master Leslie Hodson is again at his post at the Post Office,' aften an operation to his throat at the hospital. A great deal of throat trouble seems to be prevalent in the district just now. Mr. W. J. Wright, of Topoka Road, ana his bride have returned from a lengthy tour of the South Island. Miss Fleming, eldest daughter of Mr. T. Fleming and Miss Stevenson, of Piiiama, are still away touring both the North and South Islands. The Okato school football team played the local boys, beating them by 8 points to three. Messrs. Fox, Larsen and Brophy brought down the lads. Mr. Wasno refexeed. Morning tea was kindly supplied by Mrs. Colmer, and each boy brought some cakes, etc. In the ' afternoon the older boys held a practice game on the recreation ground. What with tiie heavy frosts and cold winds after, the grass is becoming very short about here. Mr. Fisher is now occupying his new house, Mr. Hodson has bought Che old one. NEWALL ROAD. What is generally regarded as the best ball of the season was given by the employees of the Waroa sawmill on Thursday night last. Comprehensive arrangements had been made for the function, even so far as installing an electric light plant for the oeca-, sion, and the building in which it was held, on Messrs. Taylor and Callahan’s property, ' was beautifully decorated. All the residents in the district were invited to attend, and they turned out in large numbers, filling the building to overflowing. Messrs. Parker and Morris' orchestra was in attendance, providing excellent music, while a bountiful sit down supper was done full justice to.
