CANTEEN FUNDS PROFITS. By Telegraph —Press Association. Auckland, July 30. A meeting of the Auckland R.S.A., by a fairly large majority, carried an amendment disagreeing with the p w o posal to apply part of the interest on the £116,000 canteen profits for naval propaganda. The mover of the amendment Mr. I Lee, said that a committee of Jingoes > were trying to beat the big drum and to j encourage a big army and navy, the idea ■ that had made Germany a danger to the ■ world. STOWAWAYS ON TRUCK. Oamaru, July 30. Railwaymen in the goods shed this morning found two men warmly ensconced in a tarpaulined truck in the goods yard ready for a trip to Dunedin. The shed police on arrival found in another part of the truck a miscellaneous collection of goods stolen the previous day from Burton’s fancy goods shop, and also a bowie knife, revolver, and cartridges, numerous burglars’ tools, and jewellery. The men, who were arrested, came originally from Dunedin.
