Orders for papers may also be left with them. WAR TROPHIES EXHIBITION. July 30. As a result of representations which have been made to the Minister of .Defence by the Mayor (Mr. J. W. McMillan), an exhibition of war trophies will be held at Stratford. Exhibitions were arranged for only New Plymouth and Hawera in the Taranaki district, but now there will be one at Stratford at a date which will be arranged later by the officer commanding the military district. OBITUARY.
A gloom ; was cast over the town this morning by the news of the -death of Mr. Percy Sutton, who died last evening as a result of injuries received in an accident which occurred whilst he was returning in a motor' car from the Springboks-Taranaki football match at on July 16. Deceased, who was 24 years of age. was employed as-a teller at the Bank of New Zealand, and was of a quiet, unassuming nature, which made him popular with all who knew him. It was given out earlier* in rhe week that he was making progress towards recovery, but he was injured beyond recovery, and the end came suddenly last night. The late Mr. Sutton was the eldest son of Mr. Leveson Sutton, of Kohuratani, and there are many friends in both the Kohuratahi and Stratford dietricU who will mourn his loss. INQUEST. An inquest on the cause of the death of Percy John Carter Sutton, was openled this afternoon before Mr. C. D. Sole, J.P., and a jury of four. •Sergeant Dale conducted the case for the police. Leveson Sutton, farmer, father of deceased. gave evidence of identification of the body, and the inquest was then adjourned. GENERAL. At the District High School yesterday afternoon Miss Colquhoun, who is leaving Stratford for Wellington, was presented by Mr. J. W. Boon, chairman of the school committee, with a handbag from the staff and a fountain pen from Mias Colquhoun’s class. In making the presentations. Mr. Bodn referred to the pood work Miss Colquhoun had done during the four years ,?he had been a member of the school staff. Mr. Burley returned thanks for Miss Colquhoun. At the meeting of the Taranaki Wireless Institute, Inc., held at Stratford on Friday evening, Mr. L. C. Vieary lectured to a large and enthusiastic audience, the subject. ‘■Magnetism.” being treated in a very thorough and eonviucfng manner. (Mr. Vieary explained how the natural magnet or lodestone first derived its name and its subsequent use in navigation. He showed by numerous experiments with magnets, compasses, etc., how a magnet has the power of attraction, e and’ various methods of calculating this power were given. The meeting concluded with a hearty vote of thanks to the lecturer, members express|ing the hope that Mr. Vieary will be ( able to interest them again at an early (date.
