The death took place at the New Plymouth hospital on Tuesday of Mr. Chas. Stone, a very old reside it. and well known all over Taranaki by the sporting community. He married the widow of the late Mr. Charles Brown (native interpreter).
The auihre party and dance held for the benefit of a local footballer who was injured in a senior match a few weeks ago, was a successful function. Tickets have been selling fecly for the last two weeks and it h to be hoped that a fair sum will be realised. Thirty-two f ables were occupied at euchre, the winners being: First prize, gentlemen (umbrella, donated by Mr. McElliot), 11. Soue; 2nd prize (51b box tea, donated by E. Dean), V. Whitehead; first prize, ladies (ham, donated by E. Doan), Mrs. W. Hoskin; 2nd prize (umbrella, donated by Mrs. Locke), Mrs. F. Letts. After the euchre dancing was indulged in till midnight.
Mr. Andre Smaill, who has been on the engineering staff of Messrs. T. Borthwick and Sons for only a few months, has secured a position in Messrs. A. and T. Burt’s, Dunedin.
