MORE WRECKAGE.
QUANTITY FOUND NEAR MOKAU. EVIDENCE OF LOST VESSEL. Further proof has been added to the ominous evidence of the total wreck of a large sailing vessel, somewhere off the west coast of the North Island, by the washing ashore of a large amount of wreckage near Mokau. Last night the New Plymouth police received a report from Constable ! Blaikie, of Mokau, stating that on MonAlay last Mr. G. H. Dixon, manager of the Pioi station, had reported that he | had found a great deal of wreckage washed ashore near the station and strewn along the beach for a distance of about eight miles. The constable’s report stated that the timber appeared to have belonged to a large wooden sailing vessel, consisling of a number of heavy planks, pieces of timber measuring about 14in. by 10in., and 14ft. long, and several heavy curved pieces, apparently the ribs of a vessel. All the timbers had been fastened together w*ith iron spikes similar to those recently found in the wreckage wasned ashore at Omata. The timbers had all been broken and torn 'apart by the sea, and it was impossible to form an idea of the size or build of the vessel to which they had belonged. The description of the wreckage generally agrees with that found at Omata, confirming Mr. R. B. D. Eyre’s opinion that a large vessel, possibly the Omega, missing on a voyage from Hobart to Lyttelton, has been totally lost.
