SITTING OF PARLIAMENT.
SESSION IN SEPTEMBER. IMPORTANT LEGISLATION. Official advice has been received that, as a Press Association cablegram also states, Mr. Massey is to leave England for New Zealand, via Vancouver, on August 25. The acting-Prime Minister (Sir Francis Bell) stated on Monday that Parliament will be (summoned in September, but the exact date has not yet been fixed. The opening, however, as indicated last session, will take place in the Prime Minister’s absence, with a view to disposing of the Address-in-Reply and other preliminary business before his arrival. September 15 and 22 are tentatively mentioned as probable dates f'or the commencement of the session. In any case, it is held that Parliament is not likely to meet much before the middle of September, as the Prime Minister will need to be present for the Financial Statement, the introduction of the Tariff Revision Bill, and other important matters.
