A PLEDGE IGNORED.
COUNCILLORS ALDER POLICY. RESIGNATION OF OTHERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. \yonganui, i-ast Night. A special meeting of the Borough Council concluded sensationally just before midnight to-night. At the last municipal election a citizens’ ticket, impliedly pledged to prevent the installation of a big steam plant as a standby at the tramway power-house, was elected and obtained a majority on the council. A few meetings ago it was decided to erect a small portion of the plant and to sell the remainder in order to obtain fund* with which to reticulate the town. Since then three members of the citizens’ ticket have become supporters of the big scheme and by theii change of front the opponents of the citizens' ticket gained a majority. To-night a motion rescinding a resolution to instal a small portion was carried in favor of one to put in the whole plant co cost over £BO,OOO. The remaining member* qf the citizens’ ticket handed in their resignations, intimating that they would seek re-election. Some striking developments are expected.
