On Tuesday Mr. Masters received a deputation at Whangamomona from the Mangero Road. The deputation, which consisted of Messrs. A. A. Dagg and W. H. Partridge, explained that there were seven settlers interested in the request of the deputation that the work on the road should be pushed on. /kithough the hili would not be pierced for about three wee T.-, work on the road could be taken up at once. The settlers wanted work, and some were already working on small contracts. Mr. Masters, in reply, explained that the Government had stopped all work except on contracts which hud already been

started. He promised to do his best tu obtain an additional grant, and to have the unexpended portion of the giant revoted.

On Wednesday morning the party set out for Tahunaroa in h/avy rain, and the roads were so bad that it took the horses three and a half hours to travel eleven miles. Here a deputation of sixteen waited on the member, and matters relative to the district were discussed. A shell-rock deposit, from which the settlers hope to ' find means of overcoming the road trouble, i was inspected and then the party traversed the Okara Road for a few miles, jOn its return afternoon tea was kindly j provided by Mr. R. Ross, and the evening j was spent at Mr. Callaghan's residence. I about a mile and a half further along j the Whanga Valley Road towards the Wanganui River. j On Thursday the journey back to Whajngamomona was made in intermittent rainshowers, and in the afternoon Mr. Masters attended a meeting of the Kohuratahi ; Settlers’ Association, and in the evening i set out over the Kohuratahi Road down i the Putikituna Valley, staying for the 'night with Mr. ami Mrs. E. R. Wilson. ■ On Friday Mr. Waiters rod to Tahora, where several settlers waited oil him, and 'an informal discus-ion on various matters I took place. In the evening Mr. Masters r.'tended a social in aid of the school at the Tahora Hall, and on Saturday he ar- | rived back at Stratford alter what must have been a very strenuous trip'. WAR PENSIONS BOARD. The War Pensions Board sat to-day at the Court, and will complete its sitting to-morrow. The board is comprised of L’r. D. G. A. Cooper (chairman), Dr. A. W. Izard, Mr. J. D. Harner (returned soldiers’ representative), and Mr. G. C. Fache (Commissioner of Pensions).

At to-day’s sitting the board dealt, with 38 cases, of which 12 were granted permanent pensions, 4 will be reconsidered at thf- expiration of the present grant, one will cease at the expiration of the present, grant, 21 (of which four were given iim.il permits) were continued for a further period, and two were increased. After sitting here to-morrow the board will proceed to New Plymouth, and will also visit FJibam, Hawera, Wanganui, 'Feilding and Palmerston North. PERSONAL.
