POISON GAS FOR RATS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Paris, July 26. Poison gas discharged through the sewers in Lyons against rats proved most effective. Great numbers were killed. HEAT WAVE IN MESOPOTAMIA. London, July 25. According to Basra reports there has been a record heat wave, causing the deaths of many whites and Natives alike. All traffic is suspended in the daytime. The temperature in the shade during the past fortnight has exceeded 124 degrees, the highest point reached being 128 degrees.
