CONTROL OF SAMOA.
LIQUOR LAWS CONTROVERSY. HON. E. P. LEE IN SYDNEY. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyrigtt. Received July 26, 11.25 p.m. Sydney, July 26. The Hon. E. P. Leo (Minister in Charge of the Administration of Western Samoa) has arrived here. He stated that ninetenths of the criticism of New Zealand’s administration of Samoa was due to prohibition. A deputation of white residents of Apia ‘assured him that New Zealand's drastic liqttor laws were the cause of all the discontent and prejudice against the New Zealand Government, and if they were eased down the bulk of the criticism would die awn -. Mr. Lee added thai he was quite satisfied with the progrress made.
Mr. Lee Fong, formerly Chinese ConsulGeneral to Samoa, also arrived. Discussing the labor problem there, Mr. Fong said 'hat if cheap labor was unobtainable many plantations would have to close, as at present there were not sufficient men available to work them.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
