SERVICES TO FARMERS.

TRIBUTE TO SIR JAS. WILSON. FARMERS’ UNION RECOGNITION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. During the sitting of the Farmers’ Union conference to-day a presentation of an album and arf address was made to Sir James Wilson, patron of the union, who for many years was president, and who intends to continue his association. Mr. G. W. Leadley, the president, said the presentation was being made in recognition of services rendered to the farmers and the whole community by Sir James Wilson. It had been hoped to institute a Wilson scholarship, but this was now found not practicable, but it had been decided that year by year a sum of money should be set aside to found a Sir James Wilson prize for some educational subject, to be chosen by Sir James Wilson. The address referred eulogiatically to Sir James Wilson’s twenty years’ service as president of the union, successfully directing the activities of that organisation. Reference was also made to the services of Sir James Wilson as a member of Parliament for fourteen years prior to 1896, ! and also to his work on Various local bodies in the Manawatu district. The album presented with the address contained the signatures of prominent members of the union in all parts of the country. Repyling, Sir James Wilson traced the early history of the Farmers’ Union movement, pointing out the many ways it had been of value to the community.

Dr. Reakes (Director of Agriculture) spoke appreciatively of the sendees rendered in the cause of agriculture by Sic James Wilson, whose name would always be held in honor and regard. Tributes were also paid by Mr. A. Robinson (Wanganui)) and Mr. C. K. Wilson (Piopio).
