INGLEWOOD.
THE LATE MR. J. F. BOLDT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Another of the first settlers of the old Moa Block hac passed away in the person of Mr. Johan Frederick Boldt, who died at tho residence of his son, M-. Otto Boldt,, of Stratford* on Saturday last, the 84th anniversary of his birth. Mr. Boldt came to this district in the early seventies and took up land on the Bristol Road. Tie lived there with Ills sons, developing the property and weathering all the hardships that fall to tk ■ lot of small settlers in the days when cash was almost an unknown medium of exchange for anything they could bring to market, excepting always fungus. He was always willing to do his share towards forwarding the interests of the district, though never taking a prominent place. At the time of the Te Whiti trouble, when extreme danger from the Maoris was deemed possible, he joined the Inglewood volunteers, 'who were hastily enrolled, and being a drilled man in his own country set a good example of smartness and discipline to others les<s experienced. After disposing of his farm some seventeen yea.s ago, Mr. Boldt, lived in Inglewood, whence he moved last year to Stratford, where he remained to finisii h.is days. The sympathy of their oM acquaintances is warmly extended to his sons, Julius, Otto and Theodore, who
survive him. It is pleasing to know that this venerable pioneer passed peacefully away, practically without any suffering.
