BONUS REFUSED.
ARBITRATION COURT DECISION.
By Telegraph.—Press Association, Dunedin, July 22. The Arbitration Court dealt with bonuses to-day. The cooks and stewards’ application for a further bonus was refused. The court stated that the ground of the application was that new rates had been awarded by the Australian Court, which was not a “relevant consideration,” since the November, 1920, New Zealand aawrd, with the bonuses, gave higher rates than the Australian award, and the Australian rates which were now higher were liable to be reduced before the New Zaland rates.
The galley hands’ application to amend the award as to hours and overtime rates was also based on the recentAustralian award, and was also dismissed for a similar reason, though the Australian conditions may be relevant when a new award is made. The court further stated that it had no power to amend the award unless satisfied of the existence of a change of circumstances.
