NEWS AND NOTES. The following team has been selected toj meet Central team at Eltham to-dayE. Lav/ (Kaponga), C. Ried (Hawera), D. Stone (Hawera), M. Death (Hawera Tec.), D. Machin (Hawera), D. Sage (Hawera), E. Petersen (Hawera), J. Hodlnott (Kaponga), S. Swadiing (Kaponga), L. Grant (Hawera), J. Melville (Kaponga). Emergencies: Af. Nolan (Hawera), E. White (Kaponga), G. Robertson (Hawera).
The team selectors will then pick a team out of these two teams to play North Taranaki at Stratford next Saturday, and the team will then be finally selected to represent Taranaki nt the Dominion tournament. The date and venue for the Dominion tournament have not yet bequ decided, but it will be between Palmerston North, Hawera and Dunedin, A rote has been taken on the question, and the result will not be known for a few days. At Hawera on Thursday the Hawera Indies defeated Eltham by 5 goals to nil, after a strenuous game; whilst at Stratford the Egmont (Stratford) ladies drew with Stratford District High School, each side scoring one goal. This now places Stratford District High School and Hawera Technical College- level in the competition, neither team yet having been defeated.
‘ln the men’s competition in South Taranaki, the issue lies between Kaponga and E.thani, the latter having beaten Kaponga by 5 goals to 3.
The Hawera team, which withdrew from the competition, played a seven-aside tournament for the Sutton Cup yesterday. Three teams entered, and the tournament was won by F Sage’s teaun.
