AUSTRALIAN LOAN.
LOCAL ISSUE OF £10,000,000. Melbourne, July 7. It is understood the Federal Government will issue a loan about the middle of August, and that applications will close toward the end of September. In well-informed circles it is said that the Treasurer. Sir Joseph Cook, intends to ask for £10.000,000 or £11.000,000. In view of the present quotations for 6 per cent, bonds in the last Peace loan it is considered certain that the new loan will be issued at a discount. It is said that the new issue will bear interest at the rate of '6 per cent., subject to income tax. It is understood that the scheme of organisation will be similar to that adopted for previous loans. Cities, shires, and municipalities will each be allotted a quota, and will be urged to exceed it if possible.
