The moulders refused to resume work at Cockatoo Island unless their wages were increased, stating that at present- , they were earning more than the island rates with private firms. SHEARERS’ DEMANDS. Received July 21, 8.10 p.m. Sydney, July 21. A manifesto has been issued by Australian Workers’ Union claiming fur New South Wales a forty-four hour week and rates of pay ranging from 40s • to 80s per hundred sheep, according to class, where rations are not found, and thirty shillings a week less where ra> tioned: breakdown allowances where rationed were fixed at eighteen shillings and where not found 22s 6d per day.
