A SERIOUS RISK.
CHARGE OF COUNTERFEITING. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. John Swinson, an advertising agent, offered £5 to the person guessing the All Black team after the Possibles v. Probables match played on July 6, and a photographed note appeared in the advertisement. He was charged to-day under the Crimes Act with possessing means of counterfeiting, and he admitted, the offence. Counsel contended a criminal intention was absent and it was unnecessary to commit accused for trial. The advertisement was exhibited in the course of business to aid the funds of the Wellington Rugby Union. Accused was ignorant of the law, which provided a penalty of 14 years 3 hard labor. The Magistrate decided that it was impossible to dismiss the charge, which was laid by the Bank of New Zealand. The accused was committed for trial, formal bail of £5O being allowed:
