ARCHDEACON EVANS.
MET BY REPRESENTATIVE DEPUTATION. TO WITHDRAW RESIGNATION. Yesterday afternoon a number of representative churchmen waited upon Archdeacon Evans, whose resignation, had been accepted by the bishop, to take effect from the end of the present year, and asked him to reconsider hl« decision to resign, pointing out the great loss it would be to the church all over the province and the community generally, and the great need existing for his ministrations, which were more needed now than ever. The Archdeacon, who was manifestly affected by the feeling and sincere tributes paid to him and his wife, and by the evidence of appreciation of his many years’ ministrations in the community, said he would accede to the wishes of the deputation, and ask the bishop of the diocese to allow him to withdraw his resignation, a decision which was heartily applauded. The deputation promised their cordial help in the carrying out of his duties, and said other parts of the archdeaconate had also undertaken to assist him
