HOSPITAL AMBULANCE.

COMPLAINT TO THE BOARD. A complaint on behalf of the Frankleigh Settlers’ Association regarding the ambulance facilities was made in a letter from Mr. N. Allen, which was read at yesterday’s meeting of the Taranaki Hospital Board. He stated it is a fact what often when the ambulance car is wanted it is out of repair or the driver cannot be found. He quoted a case from their own district, in which the ambu•’ance was sent for to convey to the hospital a woman who was seriously ill. In response to the request a horse lorry was sent out because the van was under repair. The Association thought this kind of thing should not be permitted, and asked for an explanation of the matter. If the board had an ambulance van they should see that it was ready for urgent need, and also that a competent driver had charge. The acting-ehairman of the board (Mr. E. R. Gilmour) said all those who had any experience in motor cars and vans knew there were inconveniences, and a when people wrote to ask the board Trhy they put the ambulance ip for repairs their enquiry could only be considered as a piece of presumption. Mr. A. H. Halcombe moved that the letter remain on the table, and the resolution was seconded 'by Mr. J. Sutherland. and carried without further comment. , .
