At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Racing Conference two patents were put before the meeting—one for a|taching to hurdles and steeplechases to prevent horses falling, and the other to act as a sort of false rail to give horses a chance to spnead out after tho barrier tas been released. No action was taken.
Mr. F. Earl gave some interesting figures to the New Zealand Racing Conference when moving for the reduction of the minimum weight in steeplechase events to 9st. He stated that in 37 years the Great Northern Steeplechases never been won by a horse carrying 12.7 or over, the Wellington Steeplechase 4n the same time had never neen won by the 12.7 or over division, while only on four occasions |n 44 years had the C.J.C. National Steeplechase fallen to a horse with 12.7 or over in the saddle. The proposal was carried.
