AUSTRALIA’S NORTH.
NOT SUITABLE FOR EUROPEANS. B? Telegraph.—Pres* Assn.—Copyright. Received July 19, 8.10 p.m. Sydney, July 19. Mr. Poynton (Minister of Home Affairs) has returned from an extended tou of the Northern Territory and Papua. As the result of inquiries he expressed doubt about the suitability of either New Guinea or the Territory for Europeans. Everything possible should be done to foster and encourage the natives, with whose adaptability and work he was favorably impressed, because without their aid the islands would be useless to Australia.
