INGLEWOOD.
THE LATE MRS. BROADMORE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) July 18. The announcement of the death of Mrs. Sarah Broadmore, which look place at her residence, Dudley Road (near Inglewood), on Saturday, will rei mind old settlers of the very early days of this district, as well as of the oldest parts of the Taranaki province. Mrs. Broadmore, whose father, the late Mr. Wm. French, was one of the old settlers of the Carrington Road district (near New Plymouth), came as a child with her parents from Devonshire to Taranaki seventy-one years ago. Her husband, the late Mr. Fred. A. Broadmore, was born in New Zealand, of one of the pioneer families of Taranaki, and after doing pioneer work in the infancy of the Afba district, and helping to lay the foundation of its present prosperity, died in 1893. Mr. and Mrs. Broadmore and their eldest son came to Inglewood in 1876, since which time the family life has been identified with that of this district. The second son, now ft wellknown settler, Mr. Harold Eroadmore, was the first boy baby born in Inglewood. After living several years in the town Mr. Broadmore took up land on the Dudley Road, on to which the fam“ily moved some thirty years ago, and there their homo centre has beeu ever since. The family of six sons was reduced to four by the deaths of Urban and Leonard, who were killed fighting in the great war. The four surviving brothers, Cyril and Harold, of Dudley’ Road, Ernest, of Whakatane, and Leonard, of New Plymouth, can feel assured of the warm sympathy in their bereavement of all who know them. The high esteem in which the deceased was held by all who knew her was abundantly shown by the huge attendance at the funeral, which took place in th© Inglewood cemetery this afternoon.
