A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. July 13. When returning from New Plymouth iin his motor car on Saturday evening after the football match Mr. Alf. Barlow, of Stratford, who was accompanied by Mr. Percy Sutton and two others, collided with a gig, which, it is stated, was travelling without lights, somewhere in the vicinity of Inglewood. Some portion of th© gig struck Mr. Sutton a severe blow on the mouth and neck. The damage to the motor was not so great as might have been expected, but the gig was considerably damaged. Mr. Barlow brought the injured man to Stratford, where he was attended by Dr. W. P. P. Gordon. Dr. Gordon found that the patient’s condition was so bad that it was decided to remove him to a private hospital, where it was found that Mr. Sutton had severely injured his mouth and neck. An I operation was decided upon and was ' successfully performed on Sunday mornI ing. It is understood that Mt. Sutj ton's condition is still critical. NEW BOROUGH ENGINEER. Mr. W. J. Roche, of Wellington, was appointed to the position of resident engineer to the Stratford Borough Council at the meeting of the council tonight. Mr. Roche is 7 a native of England aUd arrived in New Zealand in 1902 He worked with a private firm for several years and was later appointed engineer to the I'eiiding Borough Council. GENERAL.
